Scholarship Program-Objectives

This program has been designed in order to accomplish a number of objectives in systematic, gradual and accurate ways; these objectives are as follows:

  1. To demonstrate the distinctive participation of King Abdulaziz University in the field of teaching Arabic to speakers of other languages to keep up with the efforts that Saudi universities exert in this field.
  2. To offer a diploma in Arabic according to the criteria and specifications required by noted international universities. Among these specifications are:
    1. the existence of a specialized academic institution, and
    2. the availability of a clear and detailed academic program.
  3. To provide non-Arabs with the skills of linguistic communication, understanding the culture of Arab societies and integrating those who can live in the Arab World into those societies in a way that does not compromise Arab values and conduct.
  4. To open the door to effective cultural communication with the international students who are interested in learning Arabic and experiencing its culture.
  5. To make the best use of the facilities that the Arabic Language Institute for Speakers of Other Languages has.
  6. To provide the faculty members with the opportunity to work innovatively as the institute is keen on performance evaluation according to the international criteria adopted by King Abdulaziz University that has a great and comprehensive project for quality and development.
  7. To offer unconventional activities in the framework of this program; something which distinguishes King Abdulaziz University from other international universities. Among these activities are the following:
    1. preparing special teaching materials that can be added to the library of linguistics,
    2. providing international students with practical programs and linguistic progress measurement forms, and
    3. preparing samples of a test in Arabic as a Foreign Language that can be parallel to international tests of other languages.
  8. To contribute to Arabic curriculum development that considers students’ cultural backgrounds and needs in order to provide the materials which satisfy these needs.
