This study aims at revealing the approach of Sharaf al-Din al-Taibi (743H.) in the rhetorical explanation of the Quranic readings, in his book (Futuh al-Ghaib fi al-Kashf 'an Qina' al-Raib) - which is his footnote on (AL-KASHSHĀF) by al-Zamakhshari. The study aims to search for the roots of al-Taibi's thinking which refined his methodology in analyzing the meanings of Quranic readings and it traces his sources that he derived from with regard to readings and their explanations, and which formed his position of the readings, and the parameters of his method in explaining. Then the study presents his rhetorical explanations at the levels of the word and the structure, leading to the discovery of the totalities of his method in dealing with the meanings of Quranic readings.
The study follows a qualitative approach based on extrapolation, deduction as it extrapolates his sources, his position of the readings, his explanation of the meanings of the readings in general, and the rhetorical explanations of the ten Quranic readings that are particularly successive by analyzing them and devising milestones of his method in dealing with the meanings of the readings from the rhetorical point of view.
One of the most prominent results of the study was to identify the features of the scientific composition of al-Taibi in general, and the key aspects of his rhetoric method in particular, based on the observance of the context, the insight to the context of poetic composition, and the resort to taste. Extrapolating his sources revealed how deeply he was influenced by the explanations of linguists, such as the al-Zajjajj, Ibn Jinni and al-Okburi, who were his main sources in orientation along with the richness of his other sources and their diversity. The study also revealed the position of al-Taibi from the successive readings of the Holy Quran and presented how he favored the narration and the validity of the chain of narrators to the linguistic measurement and criticized the position of linguists who challenged some of the successive readings. The study concluded by examining the influence of his rhetorical thinking on the meanings of Quranic readings through their three levels: leveling, differentiation and supporting. |
