Abstract : . Thirty Years had passed since the inauguration of the first International Conference on Islamic Economics. Thanks to King Abdul Aziz University which hosted the first conference in 1976. It is not a coincidence that the same renowned University is hosting the seventh conference. It is not an exaggeration to state that the first conference was the most important one in the contemporary history of the Moslem Ummah, in the fields of all social and human sciences. The very important contribution lies in its continuity. Hundreds if not thousands of Moslem scholars all over the globe are indulging individually and sometimes collectively in depth in theorizing this new field. An excellent contribution were produced in micro and macro Economics, in the field of Banking, Insurance, economic development, in fiscal and monitory economics and in Zakat economics. The first conference patronized the birth of a new social science. It did not only attract the notice of Moslem scholars, but it is now taught, discussed and researched by many non Moslem. The contribution made was the result of merging Islamic Shariah scholars with Moslem Economists. The great challenge lies ahead, in how to build a world wide Islamic economic system embracing all the Moslem countries, and build a model which enables them to gain a sound economic independence. Economic integration or cooperation is the challenge we have to face. Any coming conference should focus on how to bring Moslem countries together in the face of catastrophic globalization. The Moslem world lags behind. Our very precious natural resources are extravagantly exploited. Trillions of Dollars are invested abroad. These funds should be derived to an indigenous investment. We should attain a state of food security, of strong diversified base of evolving technological lead. We have to raise our productivity to enable our labour force to gain a decent wage. We need effectively to apply Zakat all over the Moslem world in a manner which erases poverty.
